I have been getting a lot of feedback on the business name change, so I thought it worthy of a post. It hasn't been a tremendous deal, but it seems like a few people here and there are a little upset at the name change. We didn't spell out all of our reasons, but hopefully I can offer some personal insight which helps make sense.

When Flamma Aeterna started, I was into fire dancing and Latin, and it seemed like a cool name to have. But, I didn't know much about business, and I didn't know where I wanted the company to be; it was what it was. Today, we do business internationally, with myriad customers and suppliers, and have a large investment in customer service. After 7 years, we've reached a size that we felt mandated a need to reach customers at a different level, and decide what our focus would be for the next 7 years.

While Flamma Aeterna has been a great name for us (and it still is the name of the parent business), we wanted our fire dancing site name to communicate our commitment to being the place that fire dancers, both new and experienced, can go to for quality gear. Communicating with an international audience for whom English is the common language was also a reason for the change. For some, the word "mecca" has spiritual or religious significance, and fire certainly has spiritually significance for many of us. For others, "mecca" means a central gathering place.

Either or both, a "mecca" is what we are committing ourselves to continue to grow into, and Fire Mecca very much describes it in plain English to the world.

There's also the undeniable fact of "I found this fire poi sight flamma .. something or other?" (nearly exactly what was said to me the first time I heard of it.)

Flamma Aeterna is a beautiful name, but people often don't remember it, and even if they do, it's hard to figure out how to spell. And unfortunately a hard to remember/spell name isn't good for business.
